His music career started out around 8 years ago with legend John Kazoora’s Airtel Trace Music competition where he was a runner up.

When he lost out on the prize money (he won a Samsung S4 handset), Bruno recalls languishing in obscurity, taking up gigs in little known bands.

That was until he was discovered by MC Kats, while he was performing at Centenary Park.

“Mc Kats told me I didn’t belong here,” Bruno told Ruth Kalibbala in an interview this week.

At the time, Bruno says he was going by the stage name; “Boogie B,” which he picked from comedian Amooti Omubalanguzi.

“I used to love Amooti a lot, I found him so entertaining, and he used to call himself Boogie Woogie. So, I called myself Boogy B, as in Boogie Bruno."

He says however, that he was dissuaded by MC Kats to drop the name and get a more realistic one.

“He told me that name would not work. He said, be yourself. Call yourself Bruno. He asked me my second name and I told him Kiggundu, and he said, you are now Bruno K.”

And that, Bruno says, was the “best decision I have ever made because I wouldn’t understand myself right now calling myself Boogy B.”

With a music career now on the rise, a huge social media following and a steady income, the Drink One for The Road singer is now confident about a bright future. He’s currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at Victoria University.
