dfcu Bank commemorated its 60th anniversary with a grand gala at Mestil Hotel, Kampala, Uganda. The event brought together distinguished guests, including government officials, business leaders, clients, and partners, to celebrate the bank's remarkable journey and legacy in the country.

dfcu Bank's purpose, as highlighted by CEO Charles M. Mudiwa, has always been centered on empowering Ugandans and contributing to the nation's prosperity.

"Over the past six decades, the business has grown together with our nation, and we have been partners of growth and development with Uganda," Mudiwa remarked.

The gala showcased the bank's transformative impact through stories of businesses it has supported and its deep-rooted Ugandan legacy. Established in 1964 as a development finance institution, dfcu Bank has grown into a Tier I commercial bank with a network exceeding 50 branches and 2,000 agent banking outlets throughout Uganda.

"Our transition from a Development Finance Company to one of the largest Commercial Banks in Uganda was made possible by the vision of our funders, shareholders, and investors," commented Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Chairman of the Board of Directors, dfcu Limited.

The bank's commitment to women-led enterprises was a key highlight. Over 80,000 women-owned businesses have benefitted from dfcu Bank's Women in Business (WIB) program. Linette Akol, a WIB beneficiary, expressed her appreciation for the bank's guidance in improving the governance of her business, Krystal Ice Limited.

The gala also recognized dfcu Bank's transformative partnerships, particularly the collaboration with the Agribusiness Development Centre (ADC). This strategic alliance has established dfcu as a key player in Uganda's agricultural sector, positively impacting over 28,000 individuals and entities. Through this partnership, dfcu actively supports and empowers farmers and agribusiness stakeholders, driving positive change within the industry.

"In the soil, we found a diamond! The Best Farmers Competition, which we sponsor, underscores our commitment to growing Uganda's agribusiness," stated Dr. Winifred Tarinyeba Kiryabwire, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, dfcu Bank.

"For 60 years, we have focused on enhancing the agricultural sector, recognizing Uganda's potential as a global food basket."

Dr. Tumubweinee Twinemanzi, the Executive Director Supervision at Bank of Uganda, praised dfcu Bank's remarkable journey.

"Celebrating 60 years is a true accomplishment, especially for a company in this industry," he remarked. "We believe dfcu Bank is well-positioned to make an even greater impact in the years to come."

The Guest of Honor, Ugandan Attorney General Hon. Kiwanuka Kiryowa, spoke about his longstanding relationship with dfcu Bank.

"This is a celebration of innovation, resilience, and above all, patriotism," he said. He further commended the bank for its role in advancing Uganda's socioeconomic transformation and its focus on underserved demographics like women, youth, and SMEs.

The celebratory evening concluded with entertainment from renowned Ugandan artists and DJs, including the Afrigo Band and Joseph Sax.
