President Yoweri Museveni revealed that the first person he spoke to when MTN Uganda launched was Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first president.
“I’m glad to see how much MTN has grown. I remember when it first started; Mzee Mandela called me on a small phone. That was the beginning of MTN,” Museveni posted on X.
The telecom giant, launched on October 21, 1998, is now Uganda’s largest network.
Yesterday, Museveni met MTN Group executives at State House Entebbe. He urged investors to focus on job-creating sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT to boost incomes and phone usage.
