The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the start of repair works on the Kampala-Jinja highway, covering the stretch from Mukono through Mbiko up to Mabira and beyond.
Allan Ssempwebwa from the Communications Office of the ministry urged motorists to exercise caution and patience as the contractor undertakes these critical repairs.
Motorists are advised to cooperate with the ongoing works to ensure smooth progress and enhanced road safety.
The ministry emphasised the importance of the project in maintaining the highway’s condition, which is a key transport route for many commuters and goods.
Alternative routes recommended to avoid delays
To minimise travel disruptions, drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible. Suggested detours include the route through Kigombya and the main Mukono-Katosi road.
While there were earlier issues on some parts of these detours, they have since been resolved and are now viable options for avoiding delays.
Last November, the ministry completed major repairs on the Mabira section of the highway, particularly near Lugalambo at the forest’s edge.
This area had become dangerous due to large potholes and a slippery surface worsened by heavy rains. The ongoing repairs aim to restore safety and improve driving conditions along this crucial corridor.
