With support from enthusiastic Ugandans from all walks of life, Mama D, real name Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, has served 113 meals so far and cooked for 113 hours, 19 minutes and 40 seconds.
She kicked off the journey to this huge milestone on December 23 in Kira Town, a municipality in the Wakiso district of the central region of Uganda.
The longest cook-a-thon record for an individual is currently at 119 hours, 57 minutes and 16 seconds and was achieved by an Irish chef named Alan Fisher. He set this record from Matsue, Shimane, Japan after cooking from September 28 to October 3, 2023.
Fisher ousted the previous record holder, Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who had seized the crown in June. Mama D says she is gunning for 121 hours.
Several people have gathered in Kira where Mama D is cooking from to offer all forms of support, from financial to moral. Celebrities, businessmen, politicians and officials from the government have all rallied her, either by going to Kira, wiring her dimes or conveying messages through different social media platforms.
