Locals in Kitagwenda district yesterday, Thursday, turned violent and raided the home of a local gospel musician, burning his house to the ground.

The residents accuse Levi Amarakutunga, known professionally as DJ Levi Nyamagoya, of murdering his 4-year-old niece in a suspected ritual sacrifice.

Levi, a resident of Nyaruhanda village in Kabujogyera Town Council in Kitagwenda district, is also the PWDs representative at the district council.

The victim, identified as Trina Ainomugisha, was the daughter of Levi’s younger brother.

Her body was found dumped on Levi’s farm last week, with a deep cut in the neck.

Bashir Balikumpagi, the Kitagwenda DPC, says canine dogs led police detectives straight to Levi’s home.

He says the singer was immediately arrested and detained pending arraignment in court.

Avidence found

Mary Mugizi, the Kikondo district councilor, says upon checking Levi’s home, they found blood splattered on the walls.

“We then proceeded to the boys' quarters where we found blood-stained clothes of a child in a basin,” she said.

Locals react

Residents then descended on Levi’s home and cut down his banana plantation, and killed 15 of his cows.

Yesterday, the same angry residents raided the home again and used petrol to burn down his house.

It is reported that Levi was previously accused of killing his own sister, who has been missing for 10 months.

Robert Mugabe, the Kitagwenda district chairman, called on the locals to remain calm, vowing to ensure that the suspect faces the full stretch of the law.

On March 26, the singer was arraigned before the Kitagwenda Magistrates Court.
