Kamuli District Chairman and NRM candidate for re-election, Charles Mugude Maxwell Kuwembula, has tragically died in a road accident this morning.
The incident occurred along the Kayunga–Gayaza road in Nakifuma at dawn.
According to police, the crash took place at Sanga Cell in Nakifuma Town Council, involving Mugude's double cabin pickup, registration number UG 699M, and a Fuso truck with registration UBR 835K.
Authorities suspect that speeding may have been a contributing factor to the collision.

At the time of the crash, Mugude was heading to the NRM party headquarters in Kampala to collect nomination forms ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The news of his sudden death has left both the district and his party in shock.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed that Naggalama Police Station is investigating the cause of the crash.
Mugude, who was raised in Kakira, had an early passion for political leadership. Well-dressed and charismatic, he had built a strong public image in Busoga and beyond.
Many believed he was a likely candidate for Parliament in the near future.
He was also a close ally of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, often seen accompanying her at various political and civic events in Busoga.

The deceased's body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem as preparations for his burial and official condolence activities begin.
