The Commissioner General of Prisons made key appointments, transfers, and leave arrangements for senior officers within the Uganda Prisons Service.
The changes, which take immediate effect, are aimed at improving professionalism and service delivery across the organisation.
Moses Okello Atine, previously Superintendent of Prisons at the Estates & Engineering department, has been appointed as the new Prisons Estates Manager. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to streamline operations within the Prisons Headquarters.
Meanwhile, several District Prisons Commanders (DPCs) have been reassigned to new positions.
Karol Draburu, a Superintendent of Prisons returning from leave, will now serve as the District Prisons Commander for Arua. Additionally, Charles Muliko, returning from leave, has been transferred to Iganga as Officer-in-Charge of Regional Maintenance.
Godfrey Bogere, a Principal Officer I from Tororo Prisons, will head the newly opened Rubirizi Prisons station, while Sam Chandia has been appointed Officer-in-Charge at Lobule Prisons.
The reshuffle also sees key staff officers transferred to various districts. Amos M.B. Garrison, Joseph Okunzi, Tarsisio Kamuhanda, and Rosette Namuddu, all returning from leave, will serve in Adjumani, Koboko, Rukungiri, and Kalungu districts, respectively.
The Prisons Commissioner also noted that officers who have completed 90 days of normal leave as of April 17 are expected to report back to their respective stations.
In the appointment of Deputy Officers-in-Charge, Ben Talemwa has been moved from Upper Prison to Kitalya Mini Max Prison as Deputy Officer-in-Charge.
Similarly, Alex Byamukama will take over at Kigo Prison, while Simon Otwao will continue at Paidha Prison as Deputy Officer-in-Charge. Rogers Ariho and Precious Musiimenta have been appointed to Sentema and Mbale prisons respectively, in the same role.
In a statement, Frank Baine Mayanja, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson, said, "The changes are aimed at enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of the Uganda Prisons Service. We are confident these moves will lead to better service delivery in the coming months."
All Regional Prisons Commanders and District Prisons Commanders have been tasked with overseeing the handover and takeover processes to ensure a smooth transition.
These changes reflect the Prisons Service's ongoing commitment to strengthening its operations and maintaining high standards of professionalism.
