Nantongo reportedly threw a fit during the federation’s meeting in Mutundwe, as she exchanged with the President and the executive about older generation artistes like her being sidelined.
Although it was reported that the ‘Akamasu’ singer got physical and banged the table in the fiery exchange, she said in an interview on Monday, May 22, that it was more of a verbal fight than physical.
Nantongo further explained that such flare ups are normal in a meeting of this kind.
“There’s always going to be those flare-ups. It is like when you are in the kitchen cooking; when you add onions in the oil, it is going to sizzle and when you add a bit of tomatoes it will settle down,” she said.
Nantongo, who described Kenzo as a “short-term” President in an interview, said by the end of the meeting, most of the issues had been resolved.
“The clash wasn't physical as has been reported but each person was trying to get their voice heard. Thankfully we reached a middle ground,” she said
Since its inception on May 5th, the musician’s federation has grappled with the issue of leadership with some members standing opposed to Kenzo and his deputy Sheebah Karungi.
Older musicians such as Mamuri Katumba think they have been unfairly and perilously left out in the leadership.
