Julianne Mweheire, UCC's Director for Economic Regulation, Content, and Consumer Affairs, noted the impressive increase in film submissions this year.

"Since its inception in 2013, the Uganda Film Festival has served as a platform for promoting Uganda’s story to Uganda and to the world," she said.

This year, Mweheire revealed that a record-breaking 362 film submissions have been received, 303 of which are from Ugandan filmmakers.

Mweheire expressed pride in the progress, stating, "Our stories are stepping up, and we are proud to walk this journey of transformation."

The jury for the 12th Uganda Film Festival Awards is composed of both Ugandan and international film experts who will ensure that the nominees meet the highest international standards.

27 Categories to Celebrate the Best of Ugandan Cinema

This year’s awards will feature 27 categories, celebrating the full spectrum of the film industry.

These include Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Actor and Actress in TV and Drama, Best Documentary, and Best Animation, among others.

The wide array of categories ensures that various facets of the industry are recognised, giving filmmakers an opportunity to shine in multiple areas.

UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo also highlighted the significant progress that has been made since the awards were first introduced.

He praised the growth in production quality, storytelling, and the increasing number of participants each year.

"The resilience in innovation and talent in our creative sector is evident," Thembo said.

The UCC is also working on initiatives to further support the sector, including the establishment of a content development facility aimed at bolstering the industry through public-private partnerships.
