Ugandan music legend Bebe Cool, known for his decades-long career, has opened up about the constant battle he faces with the inevitable signs of ageing.
The 47-year-old artist, who recently released his album Break the Chains, shared insights into how he continues to stay relevant in the music industry, maintain his youthful appearance, and connect with the younger generation.

Bebe Cool, who has been a fixture in Uganda's music scene for over two decades, explained that while he isn’t trying to “become younger,” he strives to remain fresh and relevant.
“No one wants to grow old; you just want to grow up but not get old,” he said.
To stay relevant, he’s surrounded himself with two types of teams: one with experienced members from his generation who focus on reality, and another made up of younger, more creative individuals.
He believes the mix of both approaches leads to success and perfection in his music.
Refusing to Age in Both Style and Health
Bebe Cool also touched on how he refuses to conform to traditional expectations of ageing.
“I decided that I wasn’t going to be the old guy putting on a suit and tie,” he said.
“It is not just about the music I am making, but physically, I have refused to grow old."
Bebe Cool says staying physically fit is key to maintaining a youthful image. “If you let go of your body, then no matter how cool you try to look, age will still be noticeable,” he added.
“That is why I go to the gym and take care of my body; I stay fit and look nice.”
With his eye firmly on the younger demographic, Bebe Cool understands that success today hinges on connecting with this generation.
“Governments and the corporate world are targeting the younger generation. So, how do you target them? You have to behave like them, think like them, look like them,” he said.
By adapting his style and approach to mirror the younger generation’s preferences, Bebe Cool continues to maintain his status as a trailblazer in the music industry.
