The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem) has protested President Uhuru Kenyattas nomination of a non-muslim as Kenyas ambassador to South Africa.

Supkem noted that the fact that the deputy ambassador was also a non-muslim was likely to affect the efficiency of the Kenyan embassy.

Former IEBC commissioner Yusuf Nzibo, who is also the Supkem Chairman, said that the new ambassador would face several challenges, including being restricted from certain areas.

"The postings to Saudi Arabia are unfair to Muslims. We just can’t have both Balozi (ambassadors) and the number two as non Muslims," Nzibo's letter read in part.

Supkem called on the government to either reconsider the appointment or appoint a muslim deputy ambassador to assist Ogengo.
