Muriithi resigned from NTV in November 2017 after being offered a job as the Director of Communications in Tharaka Nithi County.

The political reporter was previously assigned parliamentary work and political functions.

He grabbed national attention while covering a press conference addressed by Opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Musyoka, while answering a question from Muriithi, sought to know his name after which he made the infamous statement "your name betrays you".

The reporter's return is expected to offer a temporary reprieve to the Aga Khan owned TV station that has recently lost its top talent to its competitors.
