Earlier reports claimed that President Kaguta Museveni accused in the traffic officers of corruption prompting a recall.

However, police say the decision by the Director of Traffic and Road Safety is aimed at 'streamlining its operations especially the FIKA SALAAM operations by directing on areas where checkpoints will be strictly mounted'.

"Those areas have been given; no other checkpoint will be expected. If it must be, then it will be cleared by Police headquarters.

"This is to respond to complaints of extortion by some Traffic Officers. The areas were given on all highways. We shall amplify these same areas tomorrow for all to note and know."

During his address, while launching the State House anti-corruption unit, the president accused traffic officers of extorting money from motorists.
