There was a dramatic moment at Milimani Law Courts where former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was presented before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti to face corruption-related charges.
Kidero’s lawyers started off by raising several complaints to the magistrate, saying their client had been harassed through the unnecessary delays in arraigning him in court.
However, the senior prosecutor who represent the DPP, disputed the claims saying that the delay was caused by Kidero’s supporters who had surrounded EACC offices at Integrity centre.
The prosecutor caused a light moment when he said that the former Governor was “well-fed and allowed a lot of sleep”.
Kidero, who was seated in the dock smiled broadly as the rest of the courtroom burst out in laughter.
Unlike most of the corruption suspects who ordinarily spend the night in police cells, Kidero was lucky to have been held at EACC basement jail where the conditions are much better.
