The meeting is already underway and is being attended by among others, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Treasury CS Hnery Rotich, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, MP Kimani Ichung’wa who chairs the Budget Committee in the National Assembly, among others.
The country has over the past three days witnessed a crisis in various sectors of the economy after the government introduced a 16 percent value added tax (VAT) on fuel.
The tax has also resulted in a serious shortage of fuel products after transporters in the sector downed their tools to protest the new tax.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been absent since the VAT took effect, and is expected back to the country later in the week.
