Wife murders husband over money

The suspect, who is a 43-year-old resident of Waror village, Tegeres sub-county, allegedly murdered her husband, Namawangala Stephen, after he stole her savings amounting to sh200,000.

According to Police, Chelangat said she had withdrawn the money from her savings group, Kabati village savings group, to pay school fees for their children, but her husband stole the money and spent it on alcohol. She said that he failed to pay back the money as he had promised.

Residents told Police the couple developed a quarrel, which led to a fight where the suspect pushed her husband to the ground and he became unconscious. He died while being rushed to Kapchorwa Hospital. The suspect was arrested and detained in custody for murder.

In a related incident, the Police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in Nabilatuk district are actively searching for a UPDF officer, Ruhuriza Michael of Lopetageit detach, under the 49th batallion, for the alleged murder by shooting of Irama Mercy, a 20-year-old female victim who he had been cohabiting with for the last 5 months, over theft of his money amounting to sh150,000.

Ruhuriza told the police the money was part of his loan obtained from the Wazalendo SACCO. He said he had talked to the woman’s family following repeated acts of money theft, but all in vain.

According to the police, on the fateful day, the suspect returned from the bar at around 10 p.m., picked up his gun, and shot the victim dead. He abandoned the gun with 109 bullets at a distance of about 120 metres and fled. Nine bullet shells were recovered from the scene.
