The singer is being accused of assaulting young female artist Cynthia Nagawa, known professionally as Sencere Music.
Sencere claims Chameleone attacked her on the morning of Saturday, June 9, and tried to strangle her.
She says the legendary artist inflicted other injuries on her face, arms and abdomen.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire in a statement on Monday evening, confirmed that investigations are underway and that soon, the Leone Island boss would be required to report himself to record a statement.
Owoyesigire says Sencere filed the case at Kira Road Police Station on Sunday morning.
“She claims that the musician attempted to strangle her while they were at Casablanca bar in Kololo in the wee hours of June 9,” said the police mouthpiece.
“We recorded a statement from her and gave her a form which she took to doctors that confirmed that she was hurt"
“We are now investigating all these allegations, and we are now going to summon him (Chameleone) to make a statement.”
Sencere speaks out
Sencere earlier today, told Pulse Uganda that she had received a lot of backlash online and from some media outlets since she first came out with the allegations last weekend.
“I have seen a lot of bloggers posting uncoordinated reports, digging up posts from as far back as the Covid) lockdown, which was fake news because someone tried to set me up while using a different number,” she said.
“People are saying a lot… they are accusing me of chasing clout and trying to make a name off of him (Chameleone), but I do have proof..."
Chameleone has yet to respond to our request for comments on the allegations.
