Doreen Gift Bugingo opened up about her career and the state of her relationship with her father, Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, who split from her mother, Teddy Nasulwa.

Gift talked to the media this past week from Makerere University where she was graduating with a Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering.

Gift, who completed her 'A' level from Kings College Budo, did her undergrad in the same program at the same university.

Her first work experience was with NTV Uganda where she did her internship. NTV Uganda had promised to retain her but after completing her exams, ZTE -- the Chinese telecommunications firm, which operates masts for MTN Uganda and Airtel, offered her a job.

She gave birth while working there. "I worked there for about eight months and gave birth to my first born and I went on maternity leave."

When she returned from maternity leave, she got a job at Eaton Towers Limited.

While at Eaton, her father offered her a job to work at Salt Media. "So, I resigned at Eaton and went to work with Salt Media," she said. "So, it's from Salt Media that I went back for [my] Master's [degree]."

She worked at Salt Media from January 17 to February 2019.

She now works at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance as an ICT infrastructure engineer.

"I love my current job so much," she said when she was asked if she is currently looking for a job. "It's an oversight role, as in, you come up with ideas that your juniors will implement... I make decisions that are implemented."

According to her LinkedIn profile, Doreen Gift Bugingo has also worked with Uganda Christian University as a teaching assistant, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Civil Aviation Authority (intern).

Gift's father, Aloysius Bugingo, was married to Teddy Naluswa until his romance with his current fiancee, Susan Makula, went public in 2019.

Their split was acrimonious and they traded some uncouth messages. At some point, Gift found herself involved.

"I'm not abusive by nature... so I don't think I abused him... It could have come out wrongly but I'm sure I was right," Gift said when she was asked if she regretted what she said about her father.

"So, I'm not sorry for what I said... I'm sorry for the whole chaos, but I don't... regret anything I said... I'm just sorry that it is like this... that we are apart."

She said at the time everyone was angry but time has "healed everything".

She went on: "Even things we thought were impossible, God has helped... we are no longer angry; what happened, happened... there is no perfect person, I've my imperfections... at the right time, we shall be at the same table... everything will be fine... at the right time, we shall probably re-celebrate all these moments he has missed..."

She said she can't comment about her parents because they are old people and they know their issues better. But she said she communicates with her dad.

"There are people who I respect and he respects, so when I want to check on him, they are there and when he wants to check on me, they are there. So, on my part, we have a way we keep tabs,” she said.

She said both her parents have been supportive of her education and she thanked her father in her graduation speech because he has always been there despite not being involved in the Master’s programme.
