Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is currently representing the country at the BRICS Foreign Minister's Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which kicked off on Monday, April 28 and ends today, April 29.
The meeting serves as a precursor to the BRICS Leaders' Summit, set for July 6 and 7, 2025, under Brazil's chairmanship.
During the meeting, Abubakhar held a bilateral discussion with Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira. The two leaders shared perspectives on key bilateral and international matters of mutual interest.
Minister Vieira welcomed Uganda's participation as a Partner State in BRICS, expressing optimism about Uganda's potential contribution to the group.
In response, Abubakhar affirmed Uganda's commitment to supporting the BRICS values and promoting the aspirations of the Global South.
The two ministers agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and will work on a roadmap to guide future diplomatic efforts between Uganda and Brazil.
