Speaker of Parliament Hon Anitah Among on Saturday, June 7th made peace with Herbert Anderson Burora, the former deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Rubaga Division, after months of feuding.
The two met at Parliament where they shook hands and agreed before a crowd to let bygones be bygones.
“The people of Nakawa have for a long time pleaded that you and I come together and forgive each other for all that went wrong. We as people of the same house, I ask that we put this behind us,” stated Mr Burora.
“In politics, there are no permanent enemies. We fought over public administration and service delivery but there is no reason to keep heckling one another. It is high time we moved on to pursue our aspirations. "
In response, Speaker Among said she had forgiven Mr Burora.
The standoff
Anita Among
The two had been bitter enemies since last year, when Mr Burora publicly accused Among of superintending over widespread corruption at Parliament.
He was consequently suspended from his job and later on arrested and arraigned in court.
In the court case, the prosecution alleged that between March and June 2024, Burora used his X handle (@HarderHB) to post defamatory content accusing Among of being a torturer, murderer, kidnapper, and corrupt official.
The state argued that the statements were intended to ridicule, degrade, and promote hostility against Among.
Burora, however, denied the charges and was later released on bail.
Museveni factor
During yesterday’s meeting, he revealed that President Yoweri Museveni personally intervened in their clash with the speaker and advised them to make up.
As a result, he said, the Speaker agreed to withdraw the court case, which process is being finalised.
The reconciliation is hoped to galvanise the NRM support, especially in Nakaw, where Burora will be contesting for Member of Parliament.
