The Former MP, 51, says many Ugandans who are currently sleeping on the streets, especially in the city of Toronto, have not done enough research about the country.

She adds that most of her countrymen and women who secure short-term visas to the North American country, get “too excited” and forget to research about where they are going.

Over the past weeks, the city of Toronto has been grappling with surging numbers of refugees, mostly from Africa. The city’s refugee shelters have since run out of space and resources, forcing hundreds of refugees who are turned away, to start living on the streets.

City authorities say they need about $160million from the federal government to create room for the stranded refugees.

An unnamed Ugandan national told local media that he had lived on the street for the past one month.

He described his situation as “very hard” and “unspeakable”

It is only the hope that I came with that keeps me going,” he said.

Through her TikTok channel which has over 40,000 followers, Hon Nabilah advised Ugandans coming to Canada to avoid the city of Toronto.

Some of you are promised visas but you aren't told what you are supposed to do. You need to have some money with you. Maybe $400 that will get you through the first few weeks,” she said.

And when you get the Visa, don’t get too excited; first do some research about other provinces, especially those in the north and the west which have fewer people. They have the same federal refugee services. So when you leave the airport, get on the train and look for those cities in the other provinces, because Toronto has filled up.”

Nabilah, who left Uganda in 2021 is currently living with her husband and children in Canada.
