He also extended condolences, saying, “May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

Earlier, ASP Owoyesigyire had reported five deaths in the flooding, with three bodies found in the Kinawataka area. Efforts to identify these victims are ongoing. Two children, Otim Kisa Eliza, aged three, and Ochaka Chon, aged 11 months, also tragically drowned in their home in Mulimira Zone, Bukoto.

The children’s mother, Lenunu Rose Mary, had locked them inside while she went about her work. She was arrested by Kira Road Police on charges of negligence after neighbours reported that she often left the children unattended.

Police have urged the public to avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rain and advised boda boda riders to wait for water levels to subside before attempting to cross flooded roads. Residents are also reminded to secure their homes and ensure children's safety during extreme weather conditions.

The bodies were taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have promised to provide further updates and continue their investigation.

They have also expressed deep sympathy to the families affected by these tragedies, urging the public to remain vigilant during the rainy season.
