At 23, Jonathan Walinda from Uganda is turning heads in the bakery world with his unique mix of African tastes and modern baking flair.
Born in 2001, he grew up surrounded by the bold spices and warm traditions of Ugandan home cooking.
His parents, Norah Namuddu and Francis Walinda, taught him how to blend flavours with care. Alongside his sister, he learned that food brings people together and creates lasting memories.

From a young age, Jonathan showed a knack for baking. His pastries, breads, and desserts stood out for their taste and style.
After training in culinary arts, he moved to California to chase his dream of becoming a top bakery chef.
Today, he works at NUA Restaurant in Almadina Heritage, where he crafts treats like spiced banana bread, millet-infused croissants, and coconut-dusted puff pastries.
These creations bring a fresh twist to classic bakery items.

When asked about his favourite dish to make, he smiles and says: “Rice with any soup, it’s simple, comforting, and tastes like home.”
