I planned with Sheebah to overstay my UK visa - Ritah Dancehall admits

The dancer says she hatched the plan about one month before the trip, and informed her boss, Sheebah Karungi about it, who also supported it.

Ritah travelled early this month with Sheebah to perform in London and later in Dubai in the music battle with Cindy Sanyu.

In preparation for the trip, Ritah says she was asked by the Karma Music boss if she was considering staying in the UK, and that she assured her that she “had no problem with it.”

The talented dancer responded that she was indeed considering it.

“I was positive about it; in fact, I had just ordered some furniture; I called the carpenter and cancelled the order. I started to give away my shoes and some of my clothes because I knew I was not coming back. I started calling all the people that owed me to pay me,” Ritah said in an interview on Thursday.

However, she says about a fortnight before the trip, Sheebah called her to her house and advised her against overstaying her visa, an offence that can attract jail time and big fines in the UK.

“She told me that I seemed to have a promising future here in Uganda and that besides, it is not a guarantee that if you stay in London, your life will change.”

“She told me to go and weigh my options and get back to her.”

About two days later, Ritah says she called back and informed her boss that she had had a change of heart.

“At this point, Sheebah called the lady in Dubai and told her to process my ticket because she had informed her earlier that I was not going to Dubai because I was staying in the UK,” she added

Ritah also says her decision to return home was sealed once she got to the UK and saw the deplorable situation that some Ugandans, – some of whom used to have big names back home – were enduring.

Her stay, however, was not all fun as she suffered a serious leg injury after her performance, and had to be hospitalized. Up to now, she is still plastered up and unable to walk on her own.
