Police identify victims of tragic Ggaba daycare attack

Four children have tragically lost their lives after a suspected attack at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre located in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala City, today, Thursday, April 2, 2026.

At around 11:00 AM, police responded to a distress call reporting that an individual had allegedly attacked children at the centre. Upon arrival, officers quickly arrested the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Okello Christopher Onyum, at the scene.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the incident resulted in the deaths of four minors.

The victims have been identified as Eteku Gideon, a male aged about two years; Kaise Alungat, a female aged approximately two years; Ignatius Sserwange, a male aged approximately three years; and Ryan Odeke, a male aged abou two years. All the victims were enrolled at the same daycare facility.

"Preliminary findings confirm the tragic loss of four young lives," Rusoke said. "We are currently interrogating the suspect to understand the motive behind this heinous act. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident."

The Uganda Police Force has extended its deepest condolences to the grieving families and assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
