 West Nile Province win maiden FUFA Drum title, pocket Shs32m

West Nile Province have won their maiden FUFA Drum championship and walked away with Shs32m.

The FUFA Drum championship was introduced by FUFA in January 2018 with the aim of uplifting football at the grassroot levels bringing action between Uganda’s historical provinces in a tournament.

Each province forms a team comprised of footballers who originally hail from the respective areas and several top stars featuring in the national team and the Uganda Premier League have graced the tournament.

West Nile, unbeaten till the final match won their maiden title on aggregate defeating Lango Province 3-1 in a home and away basis finale.

In the first leg, West Nile won 2-0 at the Greenlight grounds in Arua with Rashid Toha bagging in the goals for the White Rhinos.

He would the hero once again in the second leg at Pece War Memorial Stadium scoring in the second half after Lango Province had gone two goals up. The away goal made it difficult for Lango Province to overcome a confident West Nile Province packed with several stars like Cromwell Rwothomio, Shaban Muhammad, Rashid Toha, Okocha, Kawawa, among others.

Dickens Okwir gave the host Lango Province the lead in the 11th minute, and Joachim Ojera made it 2-0 after 37 minutes.

West Nile were rewarded with Shs32m for winning the title. In the individual awards; Most Valuable Player went to Denis Omedi (Lango Province), Fair Play Team ( Tooro Province), Top Scorer was Allan Okello (Lango Province) with four goals and Best Goalkeeper was Nafian Alionzi (West Nile Province).
