Speaking in his post-match press address, he expressed his frustration with the centre referee for awarding a controversial equaliser for Manchester United that powered the Red Devils to take the late lead.
We cannot win – Guardiola claims title has slipped off their hands
Frustrated Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says they cannot retain the English Premier League after they were defeated in controversial circumstances at Old Trafford.
City took the lead in the 60th minute with Grealish header finding the back of the net off Kevin de Bruyne’s assist.
Manchester United responded in the 78th minute in a controversial referee decision with Marcus Rashford, who was very clearly offside, was deemed not to have impacted play as he covered the ball before Bruno Fernandes slotted home.
Guardiola stated that the referee could have been intimated by the tense atmosphere.
"Marcus Rashford is offside, Bruno Fernandes is not. Rashford distracted our keeper and centre defenders," Guardiola said.
"It is what it is. We know where we play. It is difficult for the referees in these stadiums."
He claimed that City’s chances of winning the title are ‘over’. City are five points behind Arsenal who face Spurs tomorrow with a chance to extend their lead at the top by eight points.
“I don't care about the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, we cannot win", the Spaniard told BT Sport.
“We have won a lot so it is not a problem”.
Erik ten Hah conceded that the Guardiola could have been right.
"I can see that from the other side as well - of course it's a confusing moment but when you follow the rules he didn't touch the ball, he was not interfering and it's a goal," Ten Hag said.
