Family to honor Kato Lubwama’s wish for prolonged funeral

The family of the comedian and dramatist Kato Lubwama has said it will honor his wishes on how he asked to be mourned and buried.

Lubwama had reportedly made a list of wishes pertaining to how he wanted to be laid to rest, which included among others a prolonged funeral.

Julius Ddumba, one of Lubwama’s associates and handler told the media on Wednesday, that the deceased had asked for his funeral to last at least one week.

In the same way, the late Lubwama, who is recognized as one of the trailblazers of Ugandan drama and film industry, asked for his body to be taken to the National Theater so that his fellow artistes could honor him.

Ddumba said the late wanted musicians, bands and other artists to carry out seven day performances at the National Theatre. He said the family has since agreed to fulfill all these wishes.

Kato Lubwama passed away on Wednesday morning at Stanna Medical Center in Bunamwaya. He was aged 53.

Abby Mukiibi, a friend and former workmate said the body of Lubwama was taken to Mulago Hospital this morning from where it will be taken to a funeral home, and later moved to his home in Mutundwe.
