iKon Awards rolled out for second edition

The Ugandan film industry is set to celebrate talent during the highly anticipated second edition of iKon Awards following the official launch at the prestigious Kampala Serena Hotel.

At the launch, which was held on Monday, September 18, the main sponsor for iKon Awards 2024, Reach A Hand Uganda, a prominent youth-focused non-governmental organization -- reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to nurturing and championing talent within Uganda's burgeoning film sector.

Humphrey Nabimanya, the CEO of Reach A Hand Uganda, shared his visionary outlook for the future of Ugandan cinema, asserting, "The Ugandan Film Industry will only flourish when we unite, uplift each other, celebrate achievements, and construct a more robust foundation for emerging filmmakers."

The inaugural edition of iKon Awards, held in March 2023, was an unequivocal triumph. During the Monday launch, laureates from the maiden edition were lauded with certificates of recognition. Among the distinguished honorees was Loukman Ali, acclaimed for his exceptional contributions to 'Girl in the Yellow Jumper'. Furthermore, the prestigious lifetime achievement award was bestowed upon Prof. J.W Katende, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the Ugandan film landscape.

"The synergistic collaboration we share with iKon Awards empowers us to unleash our full creative potential, making it a perfect partnership. We are primed to deliver an extraordinary experience for iKon Awards 2024," affirmed Kat Vivien, Client Service Executive at ATS Events, the event management company entrusted with orchestrating the awards gala.

James K. Tumusiime, Country Director of Reach A Hand, underscored the organization's fundamental mission of empowering young individuals. He stated, "Empowering young people is at the core of our mission, and that unwavering commitment persists. Through film, we are equipping young minds with the tools to become self-reliant and transform their dreams into tangible realities."
