Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been arrested by DCI officers in Kisumu after claims that he is linked with the Matungu Killings.
His arrest came a day after Interior CS Fred Matiangi visited Matungu sub-county and promised a security crackdown following the recent wave of killings that claimed 20 lives in two months.
CS Fred Matiang'i began his visit in Matungu, where 13 villagers were murdered by criminal gangs in the past month, and later toured Kilingili where six watchmen were killed at the local market. Two others were murdered at Mulwanda market in Khwisero.
The Interior CS said that the government had deployed General Service Unit (GSU) officers to hunt down killer gangs in Matungu sub-county adding that the operation would continue until all the suspects are arrested. He then asked residents to prepare for a major operation targeting the gangs who have been raiding homes at night.

AP officers in Matungu Sub-County transferred
Following the killings the Administration Police officers and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) had earlier on been transferred.
The move came after residents of the area complained that the officers were not dealing fast with the killers.
Area MP Justus Murunga and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had demanded the immediate relocation of all police officers based at Ejinja AP camp in Matungu.
The decision to move the officers is seen as a way to improve security in the region.County Police Commander Wilkister Vera assured the locals that patrols in the night would be intensified to deal with the killer group.
