Government, UBL sign deal to supply alcohol to Ugandan embassies abroad

The initiative, officials said is in line with supports the government’s Buy Uganda, Build Uganda agenda by boosting local production and enhancing export trade.

Leading alcoholic beverage manufacturer Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to supply its products to Ugandan diplomatic missions abroad.

The initiative, officials said is in line with supports the government’s Buy Uganda, Build Uganda agenda by boosting local production and enhancing export trade.

Speaking at the signing, UBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo welcomed the partnership.

He said the deal demonstrates public sector commitment to working with private industry to promote Ugandan manufacturing locally and internationally.

“This is a great opportunity for us as a brewery to showcase our authentic Ugandan brands on the international stage. It will bring monetary benefits to both Uganda Breweries and the government while also promoting trade, industry, and Uganda’s hospitality and tourism sectors,” Mr Kilonzo noted.

Boosting Trade Through Economic Diplomacy

The MoU will require UBL to supply sampling products quarterly for diplomatic and stakeholder events at Missions and Headquarters.

This will enable the brewery to brand and promote its products during official engagements.

Mr Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the deal was crucial within the Ministry’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy programme.

“Our missions abroad are tasked with facilitating bilateral trade and finding markets for Ugandan products," he said.

Supporting Export Growth and Investment

Through this MoU, the Ministry pledged to make UBL products available for sampling to key stakeholders and potential trade partners interested in exporting Uganda Waragi and other beverages.

The Ministry will also offer information to investors on import and export opportunities related to UBL products, further strengthening Uganda’s export-led growth strategy.
