Vipers SC offload Nigerian striker

Kitende based Uganda Premier League title holders Vipers Sports Club have let go off Nigerian forward Abubakar Lawal.

Vipers unveiled Lawal in July last year following the exit of goal machine Cesar Lobi Manzoki to China. The Nigerian striker was handed a two-year-contract that running up to 2024. The 26-year-old had been plying his trade at AS Kigali, Rwanda where he scored eight goals and assisted ten times last season.

He also won the Kigali Peace Cup with the club in June, 2022.

However, at Vipers Lawal has struggled to find a breakthrough in the Vipers offensive artillery and is reportedly on his way out.

According to reports, Vipers and Lawal have terminated the contract on mutual consent and the striker is reportedly heading to Vietnam after receiving a number of offers.

Lawal previously played in the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC and FC Nasarawa.

Lawal becomes the second player leaving the Kitende based club since the signing of Brazilian coach Bianchi Roberto Beto.

Paul Mucureezi left the club as a free agent following the expiry of his contract.

Vipers are bolstering their squad for the CAF Champions League set to kick off next month with group stage action.
