Newly-elected KIU guild president Douglas Matovu dies in car crash

The newly elected guild president of Kampala International University (KIU)’s western campus has perished in a grisly road accident.

Douglas Matovu was killed in a road crash this Sunday morning in Gomba

Douglas Matovu died instantly while five other people he was traveling with in a Subaru, were admitted with serious injuries.

The accident happened in the wee hours of Sunday morning November 21st, 2023 at a place called Bulwadda, Ggomba constituency, in Sembabule district.

The student leader and his colleagues were reportedly returning from a wedding ceremony in Masaka district.

The university was yet to comment on the development by Sunday morning.

However, fellow students and colleagues were shocked by the development and mourned the deceased as a calm and excellent leader.

“Matovu was a calm, diligent and humble gentleman who stood up for everything he believed in. He will forever be missed,” tweeted Noel Muhumuza.

“Too short a life lived, we are surely going to miss your dedicated service. Rest in peace my friend, my guild president, my vibe partner. We shall dearly miss you…I want to believe you're in a better place,” condoled Gloria Mable.

Matovu had only served one month in office, having been sworn in as the Guild President on April 19, 2023.

He was pursuing a Bachelor’s of Pharmacy at the western campus located in Ishaka, Bushenyi district.
