New ‘heart-wrenching’ film Nambozo set for release

A new documentary film chronicling the struggles of players in Uganda’s healthcare is set for release.

Nambozo is a documentary film highlighting the struggles of a health worker in eastern Uganda

The film dubbed ‘Nambozo’ tells the story of a health worker in Bulambuli district, who has dedicated her life to serving her community, with limited resources and in some of the harshest circumstances.

The nurse travels miles, navigating impossible terrain of the eastern district to deliver essential medicine and care for locals.

Show-runner Lydia Bulabya, is the CEO of Filmdom Uganda - a non-profit involved in nurturing a new breed of visual storytellers.

She told this reporter in an interview that the film is “guaranteed to leave your heart touched.”

We are now putting on the final touches, we expect to put out the trailer on Wednesday (May, 10th) next week,” she said.

We’ve spent a whole week with Agnes shooting in Bulambuli and her story, we think, is quite an inspiration.” Bulyaba added.

The story of Agnes Nambozo was recently picked up by media houses.

She was shown in one of the reports, traveling several miles on a motorcycle, at some point scaling a steep slope in Masheluse village, in Nataba parish, using a tall makeshift ladder, on her way to vaccinate children at Buluganya Health center.

The health facility serves up to three sub-counties in the district.

When her story first came out, Nambozo was dubbed ‘nurse of the year’ by Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.

The documentary film comes on the heels of a massive online protest against the crumbling healthcare system in Uganda, which ran in April, 2023 under the hashtag #UgandaHealthExhibition.
