<h2>A man whose identity is yet to be disclosed has doused his eight-year-old son with petrol, an incident from which the minor passed away.</h2>

The incident happened in the Epe area of Lagos State, around 10:00 am on Monday, August 5, 2024.

It was gathered that the suspect became triggered after the boy misplaced his sewing thread.

Enraged by the missing thread, the suspect allegedly resorted to pouring petrol on the child.

As the boy began to exhibit adverse symptoms, including vomiting white substances, the father attempted to alleviate the situation by giving him palm oil to drink.

Despite this effort, the boy <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/metro/apc-stalwart-regains-consciousness-after-ghastly-auto-accident-in-abuja/qkjtqb5">lost consciousness</a>, and local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead less than two hours after the incident, according to witnesses.

In a viral video circulating online, the suspect is seen kneeling before police officers and residents, attempting to explain his actions, though the audio in the clip is unclear.

An eyewitness in the video noted that foam was seen coming out of the deceased child’s nose and mouth.

The Lagos State police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect has been arrested on charges of alleged murder.

Hundeyin said, “A report was filed on August 5, 2024, alleging that a father poured petrol on his son’s face and pushed him after the boy misplaced his sewing thread. The boy lost consciousness, and his sister gave him palm oil. After consuming it, he began vomiting, and he was subsequently rushed to the hospital. The doctors on duty confirmed him as being brought in dead.”

The police spokesperson added that while the minor’s body had been taken to a general hospital in Lagos for an autopsy, the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further investigation.

<h2>Seven members of the same family in Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District, Shagari Local Government Area, Sokoto, have died after consuming a contaminated cassava dish.</h2>

The information was released in a statement by Nura Bello, Information Officer for the Sokoto State Ministry of Health, on behalf of Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe.

According to the statement, village head Malam Muhammadu Modi informed Balarabe, who visited the area with a delegation, that the victims included Malam Abubakar, his wife A’ishatu, and their five children. They had consumed the cassava meal for dinner last Wednesday.

“The victims comprised the father, Malam Abubakar, his wife, A’ishatu Abubakar and their five children.

“The incident happened last Wednesday and the cause of the death is actually yet to be confirmed.

“He said this was because the suspected cassava had been used by about four houses in the village and no case of illness was recorded in those houses,” the statement read.

<a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/metro/anambra-woman-her-4-children-die-of-food-poisoning-after-eating-dinner/99x618c">The exact cause of death</a> remains unclear, as the same cassava was consumed by several other households in the village without any reported illness.

The village head expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu for his concern. Commissioner Balarabe stated that the delegation's visit was to investigate the incident and report back to the state government.

The Ministry plans to test samples from a surviving teenager who ate the same cassava meal.

Balarabe offered condolences on behalf of the governor and called on residents to report any unusual illnesses promptly.

Director of Health for Shagari Local Government Area, Sani Bello Tambuwal, thanked the commissioner for her concern and hoped for continued support.

The commissioner was accompanied by Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, and other ministry officials.

<h2>Modupe, the wife of the founder and lead pastor of an evangelical ministry based in Lagos State, identified simply as Akintunde, has accused the cleric of assaulting her.</h2>

Modupe said her husband constantly assaulted her over allegations of infidelity she levelled against him at their residence in the Onosa community, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the couple’s marriage, blessed with five children, started experiencing challenges when Modupe, on separate occasions, accused her husband of having a romantic affair with two church members.

Angered by the allegations, Modupe claimed that her husband allegedly slapped and beat her up, adding that during one of the attacks, she lost consciousness and was later hospitalised.

She explained that her marriage had collapsed as her husband, who accused her of influencing church members to quit as a result of the adultery allegations, had sent her packing from their matrimonial home and was seeking a divorce.

Modupe said, “What caused the fight was because I accused him of adultery with female church members. I discovered he had an illicit affair with two female church members but when I confronted him, he threatened and beat me up.

“The first time that I got to know that he was having an illicit affair with a female church member was when I contracted an infection from him. I confronted him about the infection and he told me he was also experiencing similar symptoms.

“We called our nurse and she treated us. The same nurse also treated a female church member for the same infection and informed me about it. That was how I got to know about their romantic affair.”

Modupe said after confronting her husband, their relationship worsened, adding that instead of doing things to improve the condition, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/video-deeper-lifes-pastor-kumuyi-relocates-to-uk-nigerians-react/tk1rw4c" title="Pastor’s wife seeks divorce over assault and infidelity ">the pastor</a> allegedly got into another illicit romantic relationship with another female church member.

She said, “This second incident of confronting my husband over alleged adultery with another female church member happened last year. The fiancé of the female church member got to know about the illicit affairs and he informed some members who stopped worshipping at our church.

“My husband started saying I was using the adultery allegations to influence the church members to leave, whereas it was the fiancé of the church member he was romantically involved with. He became angry and ordered me to pack out. I disagreed because there was no place for me to go.

“But for my safety, I was advised to give him space. I left with some loads and returned around December 2023 to spend the festive period with my children. When he realised I was at home, he locked me in one of the rooms for two hours, despite one of my children begging him.”

The midwife further revealed that she left the house and returned in January 2024, adding that sometime in April, she was at her matrimonial home when she took delivery of a lady’s child, and her husband, who was bent on her leaving the house, allegedly attacked her till she fainted.

She said, “He slapped me and pressed my neck till I fainted. I woke up with water all over my body. I also saw that people had gathered around me. He kept saying I had overstayed in the house and he wanted me to leave, whereas it was not only his money we used to build the property. I also contributed my money when we started building the property and the church.

“I have left the house to treat myself. I spent a week in hospital and as I am speaking with you, I am still going to the hospital for treatment from home. It has not been easy eating because my neck is still hurting. It was our neighbours who called my family members, who came to take me to the hospital after I regained consciousness.”

On his part, Akintunde denied the allegations but noted that efforts were on to divorce his wife.

Regarding the romance allegation with female church members, Akintunde said, “I am a pastor and I have a congregation and she used to bully everyone that she saw me with. I wanted to divorce her and she had already packed her load out of the house but she later returned her load.”

Confirming this case, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin said it had been charged to court.

<h2>Three siblings, on Sunday, February 25, 2024, suffocated to death in a car their father borrowed, and parked on the premises of their residence in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.</h2>

The three kids, including two girls and a boy, died in the car as their mother stepped out to buy the noodles, which they intended to take to school the following day.

It was gathered that on Monday, February 26, police operatives visited the residence at No. 8, Boluke Lane, Sango-Kulende quarters of the Ilorin metropolis where the three siblings had reportedly died in the said car on a fact-finding mission.

However, they could not gain entry into the building as the gate was under lock and key and nobody was around to welcome them.

The police operatives then proceeded to the family house of the late siblings mother identified as Shade Silifat at Ile Magaji, Taiwo Isale road, Ilorin, where she was recuperating after the incident.

She was reported to have fainted as a result of shock on hearing her children’s tragic death after returning from the shop where she went to buy the noodles on Sunday.

It was gathered that the police operatives questioned the mother for not reporting the matter officially to the Police.

According to a source close to the woman, the family intended to settle the matter internally, before the police waded into the matter as Kwara State Police Commissioner, Victor Olaiya directed a discreet investigation in the bid to get to the root of the matter.

Meanwhile, the landlord of the residence where the siblings died, had reportedly issued quit notice to their father, identified as Abdulkadir Jimoh, who was said to have gone into hiding since the tragic incident occurred.

<h2>A woman identified as Annie Ofili has stabbed her friend, Glory Okon, to death at her residence on the Greenville Estate, Badore, in the Ajah area of Lagos State.</h2>

The incident reportedly happened during a visit to Ofili’s house by Okon.

It was gathered that the duo were discussing at Ofili’s residence when an argument erupted between them, a development that degenerated into a scuffle.

During the fight, Ofili was said to have reached for a knife in her kitchen and stabbed her friend in the neck.

A source, who gave an account of the incident on a condition of anonymity, stated that when the suspect’s neighbours heard the noise from her apartment, they rushed to help, but could not break in as the door to the suspect’s apartment was locked.

According to the source,&nbsp;the landlord alongside other neighbours in the building forced the door open, adding that when they gained entry into Ofili’s apartment, they discovered that she had allegedly stabbed Okon’s neck and back.

The source said, “We heard both of them shouting in the room of one of the tenants and quickly ran there. When we got there, we found the door locked, forced it open and rushed in.

“When we entered, we met Ofili on top of her friend with a knife, and her friend was in a pool of blood with knife stabs in her neck and at the back”

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin has, however, confirmed the incident.

His words, “Yes, I am aware of the incident. It happened around 5.50 pm on Sunday. The Divisional Police Officer, Ajah Division, got a distress call from the landlord living at Greenville Estate, Badore, Ajah, Lagos State.

“The landlord said around 1.20pm, one of his tenants, Annie Ofili, murdered her girlfriend, Glory Okon, who came to visit her, with a kitchen knife.”

Hundeyin added that the suspect was immediately arrested and detained.

A pastor identified as Nduka Anyanwu has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling and impregnating two sisters.

Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos handed Anyanwu the sentence on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

It would be recalled that in April 2022, the convict was dragged to court on two counts of defilement by the Lagos State Government.

The 51-year-old pastor was alleged to have committed the crime between 2019 and August 2020 at Arowojobe Street, in the Oshodi area of Lagos.

The prosecution argued that the offence is punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

In the course of the trial, the first prosecution witness testified that though she is now 15 years old, she was 13 years old at the time the incident happened.

According to the minor, the defendant was known to her as the pastor of their church, and he had been having sex with her and warned her not to tell anyone.

The victim stated that the defendant said she would not get pregnant, but she eventually got pregnant and had a child for the defendant.

The second prosecution witness, the older sister, now 19 years old, but was 17-year-old, at the time of the incident, corroborated the first witness’ testimony that the defendant was their pastor.

She narrated that the defendant had sexual intercourse with her with the consent of her parents, as he promised them that he would take her abroad for greener pastures.

Having convicted Anyanwu, Justice Soladoye held that the victims’ parents acted irresponsibly by allowing their pastor to deceive them that he will help them take their children abroad when the defendant cannot even help himself.

Pastor sentenced to life imprisonment for impregnating 2 teenage sisters

The minors who testified against the convict stated that he was their church pastor.

Operatives of Rivers Police Command, have arrested a 17-year-old boy identified as Noble Uzuchi, alongside his accomplice, Chigozie Ogbonna, 29, for impregnating 10 ladies as part of running a baby factory.

Aside from Uzuchi, and Ogbonna, the police also apprehended two other ladies, Favour Bright, 30; and Peace Alikoi, 40.

According to the Rivers Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed the arrests, the four suspects operated in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre local government areas of the state.

While noting that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off, Iringe-Koko said the 10 pregnant ladies had been rescued.

“On Saturday, January 7, 2023, around 4.45pm, while acting on credible intelligence available to the Rivers State Police Command, C4I Intelligence Unit operatives raided two houses at Igwuruta and Omagwa communities respectively, where victims of child trafficking were being kept. “The victims rescued in the operation are 10, most of them pregnant..” the police spokesperson said in a statement.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said investigations revealed that when a victim was delivered of her baby, the syndicate leader kept the child and paid her a sum of N500,000, adding that some of the babies previously delivered in the houses had been sold.

She said, “All the victims confessed that they were lured to the illicit sales of children because of the need to meet some financial challenges. A Honda Pilot Jeep, white, was recovered from the syndicate leader.”

The case, Iringe-Koko, she noted had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation, and efforts were being intensified to track and arrest the buyers of the children already sold.
