Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sam Omara has passed away at the age of 65.
He died on Monday morning at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where he had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer and kidney failure.
His passing was confirmed by Captain Mike Mukula, owner of Arrow Security Services, where Omara had served as Deputy CEO and Director of Operations.
A Controversial Figure in Ugandan Policing
Omara was a prominent figure in Uganda's police force, known for his role as the Kampala North Police Operations Commander during the 2011 "Walk to Work" protests led by opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.

His aggressive tactics during these protests attracted significant attention and criticism, with many accusing him of heavy-handedness.
Post-Retirement and Final Days
After retiring from the police force in 2020, Omara transitioned to the private security sector, joining Arrow Security Services in 2023.
Despite his health challenges, he remained active in his role until his recent hospitalization.
In his final days, Omara expressed a desire for reconciliation, asking his family to seek forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged during his tenure. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Uganda's law enforcement history
