<p>On Tuesday, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina impressed Kenyans on Twitter with a video of himself in a marijuana (Bhang) plantation, calling for its legalization in Kenya.</p>

<p>In the video, the Senator mentioned that he was in a country called Lithuania where its legal to plant marijuana.</p>

<p>Ledama wondered why Kenya is still stuck in the old days of saying marijuana is illegal, yet we very well know it can help reduce pain for cancer patients whose deaths are on the rise.</p>

<p>The Narok Senator mentioned that his host told him that the type of marijuana planted in his farm is called hemp, used for construction, and making ropes.</p>

<p>“<em>Why is it that we in Kenya are still stuck with the old ways of saying this is an illegal drug, this is crazy. My host is telling me that this is hemp that is used for construction, making ropes but really, it actually smells like weed… but that’s not the issue, if this is good either to reduce the pain of cancer patients why not legalize it? What is so bad about it. We only live once. I think from our brief moments from our mothers’ wombs to our tombs, we need to come and settle this out. If this weed is good for us, lets legalize it. If its not good then let’s not allow other people in world to plant it. Today we are talking about the LGBT and some are saying there’s no more difference we are all equal let’s be strong about it…. I’m actually getting high</em>,” said Ledama Olekina.</p>

<p>Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina on Friday chose the motion of removal against Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki to reinstate his loyal to ODM and its party leader Raila Odinga. </p>

<p>Ledama said that he was still committed to party loyalty despite his own challenges with ODM which sought to dewhip him from the powerful Public Accounts and Investments Committee (PAIC) after he voted alongside the Tanga Tanga camp. </p>

<p>He supported the impeachment motion against Kindiki despite a political rumour that he would continue voting with the political camp associated with Deputy President William Ruto which put up a spirited fight for Kindiki. </p>

<p>"<em>My friend Senator Kindiki, we are here to discuss the issue of party loyalty and not your competence. You and I share the same challenge. When my party loyalty was questioned. I'm a loyal to my party and that is what I want to restate.</em>"</p>

<p>"<em>My party leader has been informed by political squatters that I'm disloyal but that is not true. When it comes to party loyalty, there is nothing you can do. Your goose is cooked because when a party has made a decision, it does not matter how much you fight. The best you can do is walk away and live to fight another day. Loyalty is something that history has taught us that we cannot change</em>," Ledama said. </p>

<p>The outspoken Senator said he would fight for his position within ODM but urged Senators to have a clear delimitation on meritocracy versus party loyalty. </p>

<p>"<em>If my party chooses to de-whip me because it perceives me as disloyal, the only thing I can do is to convince them that I'm loyal and fight for what is mine from within. However, as a house we may need to define the difference party loyalty and meritocracy but for Kindiki, it boils down to loyalty. I want to assure my party leader that despite the rumours you are getting, I'm loyal to the party</em>," the Senator said. </p>

<p>The High Court has temporarily stopped the ouster of Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina as CPAIC chairman.</p>

<p>A ruling delivered by Justice Weldon Korir on Monday, also certified as urgent the case filed by Senato Ledama.</p>

<p>In court documents, Ledama argues he was validly elected as a member of the Minority Party in the Senate.</p>

<p>Senator Ole Kina contested and won the election for the chairmanship of the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) against his party’s preferred candidate Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri.</p>

<p><strong>Ole Kina fights removal as CPAIC Chair</strong></p>

<p>However, Senate minority leader James Orengo (ODM) gave a notice indicating ODM's wish to dewhip him from the CPAIC and the Senate Business Committee (SBC).</p>

<p>“<em>I hereby give notice of the discharge and removal of Senator Ledama Ole Kina from the CPAIC and SBC</em>,” Mr Orengo said in the notice to Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.</p>

<p>Ole Kina vowed to fight the removal and moved to court where he is being represented by lawyer Nelson Havi.</p>

<p>He dismissed Orengo’s letter saying it has no basis and should be treated with contempt.</p>

<p>Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called on ODM leader Raila Odinga to settle <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/its-about-to-get-nasty-senator-ledama-breathes-fire-as-odm-dewhips-him/9cn9rr5">the wrangles that saw him getting dewhipped.</a></p>

<p>The Senator spoke during an interview on with a local station where he pointed out that Mr Odinga had the power to stop his ouster from a powerful Senate committee after he defied the party’s position to get elected as its chair.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“<em>I want to call upon my party leader and tell him that my election is being stolen, support me</em>,” Ole Kina said.</p>

<p><strong>Controversial election</strong></p>

<p>ODM through Minority Leader James Orengo, gave notice to discharge the senator from the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIK).</p>

<p>“<em>In accordance with the Senate Standing Order 190, I hereby give notice of the discharge and removal of Senator Ledama ole Kina from the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) and the Senate Business Committee</em>,” Mr Orengo wrote to House Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.</p>

<p>Mr Kina, backed by four Jubilee senators, beat Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, the ODM favourite, in a <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiTk9-3xaPpAhWgQUEAHYdxCeoQFjAAegQIAhAB&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pulselive.co.ke%2Fnews%2Fsenator-ledama-ole-kina-tells-off-his-counterpart-james-orengo-after-he-opposed-his%2Fvrj6n8f&amp;usg=AOvVaw0rTEvKJMHgWwuR0GBpJi-6">move that caught the Orange party off-guard.</a></p>

<p>"<em>Democracy is on trial in Kenya! The outcome of two recent events reminds me of the Thirty Tyrants of Athens,</em>" the Senator tweeted.</p>

<p>Details have emerged of a secret plan by Deputy President William Ruto's allies in the Senate that led to the election of firebrand ODM Senator Ledama Ole Kina to the powerful Public Accounts Committee (PAC). </p>

<p>The nine member committee has five members from Jubilee and four from the minority NASA - although the chairmanship position is reserved for the Opposition. </p>

<p>The Ruto camp was aware that the ODM had wanted to have Kisii Senator Sammy Ongeri take over the chairmanship from Homa Bay's Moses Kajwang whose helm ended in December 2019. </p>

<p>To their benefit, Jubilee's five members were dominantly pro-Ruto (3 out of 5) which meant they needed to get two extra votes to  overturn the leadership plan envisaged by party leaders Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta. </p>

<p>Senators Mithika Linturi (Meru), Hargura Godana (Marsabit), and Millicent Omanga (nominated) are card-carrying members of the Tanga Tanga while Kiambu's Kimani Wamatangi leans on the Kenyatta side. </p>

<p>Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata is an ardent Kenyatta supporter and was ready to side with the four senators from ODM - Kajwang', Migori's Achillo Ayacko, Ongeri, and Ole Kina. </p>

<p>In a genius political strategy, the Ruto team offered to support Senator Ayacko but the Migori Senator did not want to offended the party plan which was to have Ongeri as Chairman and Kangata as Vice Chairman. </p>

<p>When Ayacko declined, Ole Kina was promised the cookie which promised too good to obey the party leader's directive. </p>

<p>Ole Kina was promised the support of the Jubilee side on condition that he would also support Wamatangi for the Vice Chairman position and who in turn was required to support his Narok counterpart. </p>

<p>The net effect was that Wamatangi crossed ranks to the Ruto team in exchange for the Vice Chairman position while Ole Kina agreed to vote with the Tanga Tanga squad on promise he would be PAC Chairman. </p>

<p>The election strategy only became clear when the Senators met to vote  with both Wamatangi and Ole Kina taking the powerful seats that overturned the plan set in place by the Kenyatta-Odinga team. </p>

<p>The elections, however, are unlikely to hold for long after Senate Minority Leader James Orengo wrote to the speaker announcing the Opposition would withdraw membership to the committee owing to the manner in which elections were held. </p>
