Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has now accused his former ally and financier Johnson Muthama of costing him the Presidency in 2013 with reckless remarks.

Musyoka recalled the events that led to the collapse of G7 alliance where he was widely believed to be a compromise candidate for those candidates who were opposed to ODM Leader Raila Odinga - then seen as the leading Presidential candidate.

The former Vice President said Muthama told a G7 alliance rally that the plan was for Kalonzo to take over once Uhuru and Ruto were jailed.

"His utterances during the final G7 alliance at Machakos led to its ultimate breakdown. His speech translated to Uhuru and Ruto was that ‘Kalonzo will take over the country’s leadership, once the two are jailed at The Hague'. Is this what you call negotiation? No way?” Kalonzo said.

The controversial speech resulted in the collapse of the G7 alliance and Uhuru and Ruto decided to contest the Presidency as a joint ticket pressure from the international community to avoid contesting until their cases at the Hague were concluded.

The Wiper leader resorted to a last minute decision to become Raila's running mate in the 2013 election which they lost.

Wiper Chairman David Musila recalled in his memoir, Seasons of Hope, that Uhuru and Ruto banned Kalonzo from their prayer rallies after Muthama's utterances in Machakos.

"During a prayer meeting in Ruiru, they (UhuRuto), privately challenged Kalonzo to invite them for prayers in Ukambani and a meeting was hastily organised the following weekend in Machakos."

"In his speech, Johnstone Muthama, "kweekwa ali, tukeeka-ali" and the crowd went wild. It is said that after the rally, Uhuru and Ruto left for Kitengela where they sought the services of a young man from Kalonzo's team, Fred Muteti, to interpret what Muthama had said. They were curious to know the meaning of the statement that drove the crowd into a frenzy. According to Mwakwere, Muteti told them that Muteti told them that Muthama meant,"Once these people(Uhuru and Ruto)get jailed at the Hague, Kalonzo shall take over," Musila writes.

The former Kitui Senator recalls that Kenyatta and Ruto became very angry at Musyoka and banned him from attending their political meetings.

"After the Kitengela meeting, it was agreed that Kalonzo was no longer welcome to their rallies. They dispatched Mwakwere. The following Tuesday, Mwakwere walked to Kalonzo's office in Parliament. According to him, Kalonzo was not to attend prayer rallies attended by Uhuru and Ruto," the former Musyoka ally recalls.

Musila adds that Musyoka, then a Vice President, had to seek President Mwai Kibaki's intervention who convinced Kenyatta and Ruto to make peace with his VP.

After being outwitted both in government and in the Jubilee party, Deputy President William Ruto has began charting a new path by assembling an efficient team, backed by financial muscle to win the 2022 presidential elections.

In Mombasa, Ruto has roped in former Senator Hassan Omar who has teamed up with Mohammed Ali and Aisha Jumwa to make inroads in a region that was traditionally perceived to be Raila Odinga’s turf.

He has also tapped in to the expertise of former Senator Johnstone Muthama who was at the center of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) as well as the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Muthama is tasked with tackling Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s influence in the Ukambani region and for marshaling the region to vote for DP Ruto.

Taming the Raila influence in Western Kenya

Western Kenya is perhaps one of the areas where DP Ruto has made significant gains with several lawmakers joining his bandwagon and the Tanga Tanga outfit.

The man tasked with ensuring victory for the DP is former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale who is backed by several MPs from the region.

To secure the much-needed votes for the DP, he will have to battle with Odinga’s influence in a region that has in the past shunned their own sons (Mudavadi and Wetangula) in favour of the ODM party leader.

Davis Chirchir who was Jubilee chief agent in the last general elections has also been brought on board by the DP to aid his teams.

Media reports indicate that the DP has cast his nets wider and has been linked to clashes in the Amani National Congress (ANC) where several senior party officials resigned in a huff.

Among those who resigned are Barrack Muluka and Eliud Owalo with DP Ruto’s name surfacing amid allegations that the duo had been pushing party leader Musalia Mudavadi to join the DP Ruto bandwagon and shelve his own bid.

“Mr Owalo was a mole who came to the party to drive Ruto’s agenda,” said Lugari MP Ayub Savula.

Rebellion in Mount Kenya

Recent developments have left no doubt that DP Ruto if not President Uhuru Kenyatta's automatic successor in the Mount Kenya region as initially thought by many.

With increasing resistance to his 2022 bid and with more leaders warming up to the idea of a Raila Odinga presidency, Ruto has had to rethink his strategy and assembly a new team.

His mount Kenya brigade is led by a team of youthful lawmakers including Kimani Ichungwah (Kikuyu) and Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) who are expected to face off with experienced names such as David Murathe and Peter Kenneth to bring in the votes.

With almost two years to go and with political realignments yet to peak, political moves and alliances formed over the next 24 months determine who carries the day in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama went on the rampage yet again, spilling the beans on his political dealings with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who accused him (Muthama) of <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/you-took-me-to-raila-odinga-twice-secrets-let-out-as-kalonzo-and-muthama-feud/6ltj8fg">misleading him to the path of political destruction</a>.

Muthama maintained that the recent remarks leave no doubt that the Wiper party leader is a political weakling incapable of making independent decisions and who relies on others to chart his political path.

Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Henry Masaku, Muthama maintained that he single-handedly carried Mr. Musyoka on his back to become Kenya’s Vice President under former President Mwai Kibaki.

"Somebody tell Kalonzo that were it not for me, he wouldn't have been a vice president. I personally negotiated for his position with retired President Mwai Kibaki," said Mr Muthama.

Alliance with DP Ruto

The duo (Muthama and Kalonzo) have been reading from different scripts with political tensions flaring on Friday during the burial of a son of former powerful Kanu politician Mulu Mutisya.

During the confrontation, Muthama maintained that he willnot accept any disrespect from Musyoka who lacks the funds to run a successful campaign to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I am not with Ruto because I need anything but because of the people. I was in Wiper but I am in shock that the government you are supporting removed the leadership at Nairobi County,” stated Muthama during the confrontation.

"This is my riddle to Muthama; do you&nbsp;think Kalonzo can be Ruto's vice president? This is my question to you. Do you&nbsp;think my respect can allow me to deputise Ruto?" posed Musyoka.

“This time&nbsp;round I have decided I do not need anyone to negotiate on my behalf. I will not be sold like a cow in the market. Brace yourselves .… be ready because I am tired of disrespect by those always undressing me in public." Added Musyoka.
