The president of the Uganda Young Democrats, Ismael Kirya, while addressing journalists at the party’s offices in Kampala, said that after the release of the road map for the 2026 polls by the electoral commission, political parties have to strategise and organise themselves internally through branch inspection, organising structures, among others. Thus, security is required in such activities instead of blocking them.

DP’s caution comes against the backdrop of the police's suspension of mobilisation activities of the National Unity Platform (NUP) across the country.

The police alleged that they had received intelligence that the party was not meeting the agreed-upon guidelines.

In a statement issued by the Police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, said that Kyagulanyi and his NUP supporters had disregarded several guidelines.

"While we completely support the right of individuals, groups, and other citizens to peacefully gather or assemble and make their views on matters of public policy, we have noticed that, in all areas where the NUP mobilisation activities have been carried out," the police statement reads in part.

It is also important to note that police once again interfered in FDC party activities on Tuesday, September 18, 2023.

The party’s (FDC) chairperson, Wasswa Birigwa, called for a delegates conference on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

The court, however, issued an injunction to stop the party delegates' conflicts, much as the Birigwa (FDC) faction defied this injunction.
