Sports have always been an integral part of Uganda. Kamorwon Administration Police post in Nandi County, was on Tuesday night raided as officers had gone to watch a football match between Barcelona and Manchester United.

Corporal Rodgers Masiwa, who confirmed the incident, stated that an unknown group of people gained access to the station and stole three firearms and rounds of ammunition.

“On entering the house, they found the steel box which contained the guns and ammunition and broken into it.

“Three rifles namely, G3 FMP 77095029, G3 FMP 7709443 and G3 A3 F91879 each with a magazine of 20 rounds of ammunition of 7.62mm, were found missing, while 17 and 20 rounds of ammunition, had been left behind,” remarked Masiwa.

He further revealed that the building at the time of the incident, had no officer manning it, and the stolen weapons were only noticed missing after the lot returned to the police post at midnight.

Corporal Masiwa filed the report of the incident at Kobujoi Police Station and investigations into the matter have begun.

A class two pupil was claimed to have committed suicide on Sunday in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County under unknown circumstances.

The body of the boy, who was a pupil at Ikonyero Primary School, was discovered by children playing around the scene of the incident.

The 8-year old child hanged himself from the roof of their outdoor bathroom.

Police who arrived at the scene, moved the body to the Kakamega County Teaching Refferal mortuary waiting for it to undergo post mortem.

David Kabena, OCPD Kakamega, remarked that it was still undisclosed why the child took his life.

Class six pupil commits suicide over TV station argument

In October 2018, a class six pupil in Kigumo sub-county, Muranga County, committed suicide after an argument with his cousin on which station to watch.

Reports claimed that the boy hung himself after the cousin switched the TV to a vernacular station.

It was further claimed that after the quarrel, the boy left the living room at around 3pm and his body was later found hanging from the roof of his bedroom at around 7 pm by his mother.

Class two pupil allegedly commits suicide

Nairobi City County on Friday issued a Cholera Outbreak after confirmation of several cases in the county.

Through a press statement, the County Director of Health Dr. Lucina Koyio stated that the outbreak was confirmed on Thursday after a series of reported cases in the region.

Koyio, directed that all referral hospitals should reactivate their treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease.

“I am requesting all referral hospitals to reactivate their Cholera treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease.

“All sub-counties should be on high alert and treat all suspected cases as cholera cases. Please also reactivate your sub-county response team,” read part of the statement.

In May 2018, a similar warning had been issued after two people died in Korogocho, Nairobi.

The two included a 13-year-old girl who died while receiving treatment at Kiambu Hospital and the other was a standard seven pupil at Mission Hospital who was reported dead by her grandmother.

Korogocho residents had complained of an open sewer near the school which students used to cross over.

Community Health volunteers within the area offered medication to the people who showed Cholera symptoms.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua stated that he would release the list of the "most corrupt" individuals in Kenya in a few weeks.

Mutua who spoke during the Maendeleo Chap Chap meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi pointed out that the investigators should go for the politicians claiming to be targeted.

Over 10 people have been reported dead on Friday after a grisly road accident at Kikopey, Gilgil, along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The morning incident occurred after a trailer was claimed to have rammed into 6 cars along the road which left victims trapped in wreckage.

Out of the six, a 2NK shuttle matatu had been badly dismantled.

Reports had indicated that the trailer had been driving downhill before it lost control and hit the vehicles.

Gilgil Police boss Emmanuel Opuru confirmed that emergency teams had arrived at the scene.

In February 2018, five people lost their lives along the Kikopey Trading centre after a collision of a truck and several vehicles which included a North Rift shuttle matatu.

Two people died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at St Mary’s Mission Hospital, Gilgil.

The matatu had been travelling from Eldoret heading to Nairobi when the tragedy struck.

DCI George Kinoti on Thursday requested MPs to revoke the requirement to present a suspect in court within 24 hours.

Kinoti who spoke during a closed-door meeting with the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security was updating the lawmakers over the ongoing probe into the numerous corruption cases being handled by his department.

“Our investigations are like throwing a stone in the forest and only getting to know the person hit when they come out.

"We will not be derailed by complaint from individuals,” remarked Kinoti.

Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor however stated that the suggestion made by Kinoti was a constitutional requirement that would require a referendum to change.

The DCI boss further noted that the Sh21 billion lost in the Arror and Kimwarer dam saga had been transferred to Italy then to London before being wired back to Kenya.

“The involved persons went to the National Treasury again asking for mobilisation funds. They got a nod and proceeded to Barclays Bank and secured loans,” explained Kinoti.

In January, Kinoti and DPP Noordin Haji had been accused by Chief Justice Maraga of not having sufficient evidence for cases on graft.

The CJ had stated that Friday arrests made by the two heads would not be helpful in the fight against corruption.

A section of families of the Ethiopian Airlines plane tragedy victims on Thursday demanded for the government to speed up the DNA process and help them in compensation through legal representation.

During a meeting held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi between the families and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, some families stated that they felt they had been abandoned by the government.

Two demands made by families of the Ethiopia crash victims

Interior CS Fred Matiangi's ministry on Thursday ordered the immediate return of the Kenya Prisons women volleyball team that had been stranded in Egypt during the ongoing Women’s Africa Club Championship in Cairo.

A press statement through the PS State Department for Correctional Services Zeinab Hussein, stated that the team had breached protocol and travelled to the competition without the approval of the government.

“The State Department for Correctional Services neither cleared nor financed the team’s travel to Cairo and was surprised to learn of its presence outside the country.

“Given the breach of protocol and the contravention of rules regarding public servants’ travel overseas, the government has immediately organized for their repatriation tonight,” remarked Hussein.

The decision to bring them back home forced the prisons team to cancel their playoff matches after they got knocked out of the main competition.

Reports indicated that the cancellation will be a blow to the team as they will be fined by the African Volleyball Confederation.

Matiang'i takes quick action in case of players stranded in Egypt

The High Court ordered 249 members of the Samburu community to pay Former President Daniel Arap Moi’s lawyer Juma Kiplenge Sh8.2 million in cost after they lost out on a case against the former president.

Deputy Registrar of the High Court Damacline Bosibori stated that the pastoralists were taxed the amount after they lost the case in 2017.

The group had sued Moi, African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) over a huge piece of land in Laikipia North.

Bosibori noted that the money to be paid to Kiplenge should be done through the Kiplenge and Kurgat Advocates who represented the former president.

She further directed the herdsmen to pay a similar amount to Kaplan and Stratton, which was the law firm that represented AWF in the case, after they had filed a bill of Sh11.8 million.

The case however is pending before the Court of Appeal after the group moved to challenge the decision made.

The second president of the country clarified that 17,105 acres had been given to AWF and the land had no squatters.

A man identified as Paul Njoroge, who lost his family in the Ethiopian Airways plane tragedy, on Wednesday stated that he would not bury the soil from the crash site due to it being something against his religion.

Njoroge, who lost his wife, three children and the mother-in-law in the incident, is a seventh day adventist and noted that he would instead have a prayer mass in honor of the departed.

He further added that the decision was also to have his friends and close relatives go back to their day to day lives.

“This is a big loss for me. It is too painful, but I guess there is nothing much I can do other than accept it and let people continue with their lives,” remarked Njoroge.

The grieving man pointed out that he had opted to wait for the DNA results.

“The six months the government has requested so that it can receive results of the DNA analysis on the 5,000 pieces of human bodies collected from the scene is too long, and so we will just hold a prayer mass and wait for DNA results,” stated the man.

Last Monday,<a id="c968bd78-a594-4d12-882c-93e9b0d4a11b" href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/ethiopian-airlines-crash-had-clear-similarities-with-lion-air-flight-610-crash-in/rxqq39z"> Ethiopian Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges </a>disclosed the results from the analysis of the Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 black box.

Moges mentioned that the events that faced the Ethiopian Airways flight had “clear similarities” to the Indonesian plane tragedy of Lion Air flight 610.

The minister however did not indicate the specifics of the similarities of the two accidents.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday revealed that Kositei sub-location Chief Jack Ranoei had been sacked from his job and had no authority to divulge information on any official matter.

Matiang’i who spoke during an interview on Kameme FM, stated that Ranoei had been fired a long time ago due to drunkness.

Reports had surfaced that several people had died a week ago due to hunger in Tiaty, Baringo County.

Ranoei had indicated that four people had died in Kamusuk, Kositei and Seretion due to the crisis facing the country.

The tough talking Matiang’i went to assure Kenyans that Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa had the situation in control as it was being assessed across the country and necessary measures would be put in place.

DP Ruto denies claims of deaths due to drought

Netizens on Tuesday expressed their frustrations in regards to how the government had decided to handle the matter.

Deputy President William Ruto and concerned state officials had on Monday disregarded the death claims.

The DP’s sentiments were also echoed by James Oduor, CEO of the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), who denied the claims that 11 people had lost their lives due to hunger and stated that the deaths could have been caused by other problems.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma on Tuesday asked Parliament to clear her name from the controversial case where Sh3.5 billion comprehensive group life insurance cover was given to the police and prison officers.

Juma, who appeared before the Public Accounts Committee, explained that she had no part in the awarding of the contract and thus her name should be cleared of any wrong doing.

“I have no reason to impute illegality into this contract.

“The conclusion reached by the committee that I be reprimanded is an apportionment of blame that is erroneous,” stated Juma.

Auditor General Edward Ouko had released a report that indicated the cover issued was found to be irregular.

The Foreign Affairs CS pointed out that the matter should be addressed to the accounting officer at the Interior Ministry and the then Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo when the contract was signed in 2014.

“I was not the PS under whose tenure this contract was signed.

“This was done under the competent hand of a PS and if there are issues, then he is the best-suited person to answer,” remarked the Foreign Affairs CS.

Britam insurance company bid rejected over documents

The contract had been awarded to Pioneer Assurance Company which ran from 2014 to 2016.

The controversy in the case was as a result of the PS giving the contract to the highest bidder.

Pioneer quoted Sh1.747 billion in annual fees compared to Britam’s Sh629 million.

Pioneer had beaten Britam Insurance company to the bid in what had been described as Britam not being able to meet the requirements needed hence could not be evaluated.

Iringo had revealed that in the event a company could not go through the evaluation stage, the bid is considered invalid and thus Britams bid could not be categorized as the highest or lowest.

Pioneer had continued to provide the cover to the officers which ranged from Sh8 million for lower-cadre officers to Sh200 million for high ranking officers.

What CS Juma asked Parliament to do over Sh3.5 billion police scandal

Police have arrested the man identified as Kevin Obia who had been caught on CCTV camera brandishing a gun at a guard in an apartment in Kileleshwa following a dispute over a parking spot.

Obia is a Kenyan businessman who goes by the name Kevin Kleigh aka The Don.

Reports indicated that the officers confiscated Obia’s firearm in a bid to establish the authenticity of the gun certificate he had presented.

Obia who is described as a popular person in Nairobi’s high-level entertainment society, will be charged in court by Thursday after investigations into the incident had been concluded.

The flamboyant businessman is alleged to be facing different charges over his pretension of selling 7kg of gold to an Australian National, Christian Gallati.

It is claimed that Obia pocketed Sh13.7 million from the deal.

According to the security guard, Obia and two of his friends had ignored the instructions given to them to park at the visitor’s parking space.

“They came and I showed them a parking spot for visitors but they refused and parked at a tenants’ spot. They said that they will not stay for long and they will be back in a few minutes,”

The situation went from bad to worse when Obia and his colleague came back and found their vehicle had been blocked by that belonging to a tenant.

The guard however refused to call the tenant to move the vehicle and another argument ensued leading to Obia brandishing his gun threatening to kill him.

Revealed: Identity of Man caught on CCTV camera brandishing gun

DCI officers on Tuesday recovered a Range Rover and a Mercedes Benz disguised with motorbike registration numbers.

The two vehicles were impounded at a compound that belongs to an official in the Nairobi City Council government.

The Range Rover and the Mercedes bore the number plates KBN 591A and KBG 330E respectively.

According to the police, two other number plates had been found in the boot of the Mercedes.
