The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Huda Oleru Abason, officially launched the NEC-STREIT Armoured Vehicle Showroom in Abayita Ababiri, Wakiso District, on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth.
This showroom, a collaboration between Uganda’s National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and the global armoured vehicle manufacturer, Streit Group, marks a significant milestone for the country’s defence and industrial sectors.
The state-of-the-art facility will showcase vehicles manufactured at the NEC-STREIT Assembly Plant in Nakasongola.

Hon. Oleru commended the partnership for its strategic importance, calling it timely and beneficial for Uganda’s evolving security needs. “This showroom is not only for the army and the police, but for researchers, financial institutions transporting cash, humanitarian workers, and other sectors requiring secure mobility,” she stated.
The facility aligns with the government’s Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy, fostering local industrial development through technology transfer and skills training.
Lt Gen. James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC, explained that the showroom plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between production and customer engagement.

“This facility provides security clients with an opportunity to inspect, interact with, and test our products before procurement,” Gen. Mugira said.
He detailed the range of vehicles manufactured, including MRAPs (Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicles), armoured ambulances, cash-in-transit vans, and riot control vehicles. Over 100 Ugandans have been trained in advanced armoured vehicle manufacturing technologies, strengthening the country’s technical expertise.
Mr. Guerman Goutorov, Chairman and CEO of Streit Group, praised the Ugandan government’s commitment to industrial development. He highlighted the broader impact of the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration is about building local capacity, transferring global expertise, and investing in Africa’s security future.”

The joint venture is also exploring innovations such as aerial surveillance technologies and drone-based security solutions to enhance Uganda’s national defence framework.
The NEC-STREIT partnership, launched in 2019, continues to strengthen Uganda’s position as a regional hub for armoured vehicle production.
The Nakasongola plant, commissioned in 2022, is one of the few armoured vehicle production facilities in Africa.
