Biography of Grenade Official
Deus Ndugwa, known professionally as Grenade Official, was born on July 14, 1997 in Lyantonde, Uganda.
His early education took place at Kitebi Primary School, followed by Ordinary Level studies at Makindye Secondary School.
Grenade’s journey into the music industry began with a determined pursuit of Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone.
After walking from Lyantonde to Kyazanga to attend a Chameleone performance, hoping to claim payment for rabbits, Grenade was disappointed when the artist left before settling the debt.
Undeterred, he travelled to Kampala on a truck carrying music equipment. In Kampala, he briefly worked at an equipment shop in Katwe but grew restless after two weeks and resumed his search for Chameleone.
Alongside a friend, he trekked to Seguku to meet the artist but was unable to do so.To sustain himself, Grenade took on various menial jobs, including selling scrap.
During this time, he crossed paths with a producer named Mavo in Kamwokya, who helped him record his first songs under the stage name Moz Dem.
This led to a few performance opportunities, but a fallout with Mavo soon saw Grenade return to the streets. His fortunes shifted when he visited 9 Degrees Bar and met Coco Finger, who took him under his wing.
Through Coco Finger, Grenade connected with Big Eye, who offered him a place to stay. However, Grenade soon left after learning that Don Zella had enrolled him to return to school, choosing instead to continue hustling.
He later teamed up with Hypeman, frequenting bars together, and through this association, he met Kevin Killer.
This connection introduced him to Pallaso, with whom he began collaborating, including on the song Walayi.
Grenade Official’s breakthrough came with his hit song Nkuloga, which marked a turning point in his career, establishing him as a rising talent in Uganda’s music scene.
