Straight out of high school, about 20 years ago, the lanky radio host hit the ground running, earning big bucks from his first radio job.
“I was making roughly what a bank teller earns today,” Marcus recounted on Saturday.
“I was straight out of high school but the problem was that this was the kind of job that comes with celebrity status,” he said.
“So I had all this money… I was a small god aged 19 years…and I really spoilt that money.”

Bank tellers in Uganda according to some aggregating sources, make about 2.7million in salary and additional payments.
Marcus, who was speaking at a financial literacy workshop in Kampala, says if he had had sufficient knowledge of how to handle money from the start, he would be very wealthy today.
His radio career began in 1998 at Sanyu FM where he worked for three years in his S6 vacation, “before I remembered that a university degree is equally important.”
Every year, he says, he was getting pay raises and by the time he hit campus he was very rich.

“I had a lot of money in my head but my bank account had nothing; that is because I was living a life that was not mine,” he said.
“Nobody taught me how to keep and grow your money. I only knew how to make the money."
“Now I am an organized person but imagine If I had the information I have today, 20 years ago.”
Marcus was speaking at the launch of a financial literacy institute called the Financial Diet Academy which is seeking to impart financial knowledge and empowerment to Ugandans of all age groups.
