Uganda’s Ian Munyani, Aaron Ofoyrwoth invited for ‘all-stars’ international Rugby Tens Championship

Uganda Rugby Sevens stars Ian Munyani and Aaron Ofoyrwoth have been invited for the international Rugby Tens Championship in South Africa.

The duo will feature alongside an array of top-class players in the tournament due October this year.

Organisers have announced players from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Uganda, Tunisia, USA, Fiji, France, Japan, Kenya, Zimbabwe among others to send their national players for a 10-a-side competition that will take place for a two-weeks.

Five franchises – Balkans Honey Badgers, Blue Bulls Rugby Union, Cape Town Wild Dogs, San Clemente Rhinos, and Serengeti Elephants – will compete in the men, women, and U18 boys & girls’ categories over two back-to-back rounds in the cities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch.

According to the organisers, the Pretoria round will be held on October 7-8 while the Stellenbosch round will be on October 14-15. There is a R 200,000 cash prize (about Shs43m) and the Championship Franchise Trophy up for grabs for the winning side at the end of the two rounds.

Rugby 7s vice-captain Munyani and Oforwoth have been selected among the key players in the Uganda Rugby Sevens team that have been involved in a series of international engagements.

The African champions have had unforgettable season winning the continental glory which earned them a double ticket to the Commonwealth Games and the just concluded Rugby Sevens World Cup.

The team also competed in the World Challenger Series in Chile before returning home for the World Cup.

Back home, the national team stars will be expected to join their respective clubs for the final two national circuits.
