Uganda Rugby 7s emerged winners of the Africa World Cup Qualifiers which earned the team tickets to the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
Uganda names Rugby 7s Commonwealth Games squad
Africa Rugby 7s champions, Uganda Rugby Cranes team for the Commonwealth Games has been named.
Slated for July 28-August 8 in Birmingham, United Kingdom, the Commonwealth Games will bring the best around the world in quest for medals across various sports disciplines. Uganda is expected to field over 80 athletes across 12 sports disciplines.
Head coach Tolbert Onyango named his 14-man squad, dropping one player from the victorious team that lifted the Africa crown.
Kelvin Balagadde is the only player dropped from the Rugby 7s as Onyango introduced William Nkore and Alex Aturinda as the new names to the team.
Experienced Rugby star Michael Wokorach will captain the squad with Ian Munyani as the vice-captain.
Also, Levis Ocen, who plies his trade as Buffaloes as been named as a reserve player just incase of any unforeseen circumstances occur in the Cranes camp.
