King Oyo praises diversity in Uganda Rugby 7s team as circuit goes national

The Omukama of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has praised the nationalistic outlook of the rugby 7s team.

Uganda Rugby 7s team placed 17th position at the just concluded World Rugby 7s won the Bowl finals defeating Germany.

Uganda won 19-12 with tries from Philip Wokorach, Ian Munyani and Michael Mokorach.

The Omukama said that the team should be proud of themselves.

“Ugandans should be very proud of the cultures were have. It does not matter whether you are from the East, North, West or Central. We all play an integral part to ensure our cultural diversity in this country. I see different cultures in the team which unites us even more as a country. We are with you”, he said.

The Uganda Rugby team captain Michael Wokorach hailed the Uganda Rugby Union for taking the sport to upcountry clubs through the national sevens circuit.

Tooro Sevens circuit was hosted at Buhinga stadium, with the Tooro Lions taking part against core teams for the very first time.

“It’s actually good thing that teams outside Kampala are embracing this. URU mandate is to promote the sport and develop the sport in different regions. They are doing it perfectly. We were in Arua, we’re in Tooro, and we going to Jinja next”, he said.

Kobs Rugby, the defending champions of the circuit won the Tooro edition. Jinja Hippos lead the table with 87, Heathens comes second with 85 and Kobs, 74 on the ten-team-log.

The next will be the Kyabazinga Circuit at Bugembe in Jinja and finally the grand finale at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala.
