Netball World Cup: She Cranes pooled with familiar opponents New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago

The Uganda senior women’s netball team, the She Cranes have been pooled with New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago and Singapore in the 2023 Netball World Cup group stages.

New Zealand and Trinidad & Tobago are familiar opponents to the She Cranes having met at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, United Kingdom.

She Cranes lost to New Zealand and beat Trinidad & Tobago.

Only three African countries shall compete at the Netball World Cup scheduled for July 28 to August 6, 2023, South Africa.

Pool A consists of Australia, Tonga, Zimbabwe and Fiji. England, Malawi, Scotland and Barbados are in pool B while pool C has South Africa, Jamaica, Wales and Sri Lanka.

In Pool D, New Zealand, is the favourite as the highest ranked team at number two in the world.

In recent outings, She Cranes have pulled off impressive performances at the global stage and recently beat the world’s number one ranked team, Australia Diamonds at the Fast5 World Netball series.

The other opponents include Trinidad and Tobago and Singapore.

World Netball president expressed readiness to global tournament backing the host continent to perform well.

“It is very exciting to be at this stage of the competition, with all 16 teams confirmed and congratulations to all the teams that vied for success in the qualifier tournaments”, said Liz Nicholl.
