Uganda added yet another victory in the final group match game that pitted the 5th ranked She Cranes against Malawi ranked 7th in the World Netball rankings. Uganda edged Trinidad and Tobago, and Northern Ireland. The She Cranes fell against host nation, England and world champions New Zealand.
Netball: Uganda clinch third win against Malawi
The Uganda senior netball team, She Cranes have defeated Malawi 56-43 to register the team’s third victory in the Commonwealth Games.
The result means Uganda will face South Africa in the play-off to determine the 5th ranked team overall at the Commonwealth Games.
Against Malawi, Uganda had just a slim 11-14 lead in the first quarter as both teams were equal to challenge playing to take the day.
The tight contest saw the two go neck-to-neck much to the excitement of the crowd.
In the first round, Uganda led just 3 points thanks to Stella Oyella at wing attack putting in the speed and hitting the circle edge perfectly.
In the second quarter, Malawi’s Takondwa Lwazi caused great trouble for Uganda as she was covering so much ground as she helped her side in both defence and attack. In her spirited effort she provided 13 goal assists and kept Uganda lead in check 24-28.
In the full-time whistle the score was Malawi 43 – 56 Uganda, giving the She Cranes their third win of the competition.
