Former Aruu County Member of Parliament Odonga Otto says if he were the sports minister, Uganda would be at the World Cup.

Otto recently graduated from Real Madrid Graduate School-Universidad Europea with masters in international sports law.

The masters in sports law program enables one to succeed as a sports lawyer in international federations, law firms, sports clubs, professional leagues, anti-doping organisations and sports representation agencies. The program offers students a solid knowledge of the organization of sports, their rules and regulations and their dispute resolution mechanisms.

The former legislator in a tweet stated that his course empowered him with valuable skills and knowledge to lift Ugandan football to international standards.

“If I were the Minister for Sports in Uganda, I would take Uganda to AFCON and the World Cup. I know what to do and that is what i studied in Spain-Real Madrid”.

Otto officially retired from active politics after serving for 20 years as MP after losing the 2020 general elections. He further alleged that he resigned to watching things unfold as appointments are ‘political’ in nature.

“However, in a country where competence is traded for political leanings, I fold my hands and watch”.

Uganda has never qualified for FIFA World Cup as the global tournament unfolds in Arab nation, Qatar.

The allegation by Otto also attracted criticism by tweeps who alleged that Otto could only be looking for a political comeback since he did not walk the talk in his 20 years span as a legislator.
